Toxicological Risk Assessment

MJN Associates, LLC provides toxicological risk assessment services for domestic and international clients for general consumer products including cosmetics, food ingredients, sports equipment, textiles and toys as well as select industrial materials and chemical contaminants found at hazardous waste sites.

To evaluate a given product, this procedure consists of:

1. Collecting and summarizing specific background information on the product that will be needed to do the evaluation,
2. Creating a series of reasonable worst-case estimates of exposures (dermal, inhalation, ingestion) to the chemicals in or released from the product,
3. Identifying appropriate regulatory agency thresholds for those toxic chemicals found in and released from the product, and
4. Calculating health risks from exposures to these chemicals (risks = exposures/toxic thresholds).

Health risks identified by executing this four-step procedure will be summarized in terms of
significant short-term (acute) and long-term (chronic) toxic effects and risks posed by the product for both children and adults, including susceptible subpopulations.
